The most startling idea of the 20th century was the idea that man is a composite being.  He is not just a body, he is not just 206 bones, he is not just mortal.  He has a mind that helps him survive and to create.  The mind is made up of images, mental image pictures or impressions.. The sound you hear in your mind when you "listen" to how a song was sung is an example of a mental image or impression. Recall a memory of a happy time, or a sad time and you will have at least an inkling of where you were, who was there.  It is recorded as a mental picture.  The mind is also made up of "machinery" that you have built in order to learn subjects, such as your times tables.  It is made up of copies you have made of other people doing things, so that you can learn by mimicry.  It also is made up of unknown times, where impact and pain caused you to lose consciousness, and you were vulnerable to suggestions. Many strange behavioral patterns can be traced directly to such tramautic events, accompanied by relief when a person recognizes the source of his difficulties.  The mind contains entities, which are like personalities you may have adopted.  You have seen it in yourself when you caught yourself doing and saying the things mother did, even though you decided you wouldn't be like that. It is a bit like something else takes over for a moment. The mind can contain opposing entities, so that you become like the person you hate the most, and hate yourself for it. .The composite human being is not only a body, with all its parts, a mind, with all its parts (and significances), but more importantly, there is you, the awareness of awareness, the control center for the body.  The you that perceives your mind, changes your mind, and moves your body.  Your body may eventually die, your memories may become forgotten, but you will still be aware.  There is more than one life possible.
